The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the state’s leading certifier of green residential and commercial projects and local governments, sponsored the 2020 Florida Housing Coalition’s Virtual Statewide Affordable Housing Conference. FGBC board member Mike Rogers moderated the conference On-Demand session One on Florida’s Green Building is Certifiable! with FGBC President Barry Faske, Brianne Heffner, Vice President of Development Southport Financial Services, Inc. and FGBC Certifying Agent Drew Smith.

The FGBC- Florida Green Building Coalition is proud of our history dating back to the start of the new millennium in the year 2000. Our Standards for local governments as well as for the built environment have always sought to include benefits to all parts of our diverse Florida communities.

The organization has been dedicated to inclusion, diversity, racial and social equity, but we can all strive to do better.

We believe that the right to a healthy and secure life should be available to everyone.

Because of this mindset, we continue to update our certification standards such that many affordable housing projects across the State of Florida have earned our FGBC Certified Florida Green Home designation. This designation usually results in lowering water and utility bills along with many other benefits. The FGBC is also a proud member of the Sadowski Coalition supporting affordable housing initiatives across the State of Florida.

The FGBC recently established a closer alliance with the Florida Housing Coalition and we look forward to creating closer relationships with other Strategic Partners as we continue to grow.

We are proud to have received grants from the Sustainable States Network through the Tremaine Foundation to support our equity efforts for the past two years.

We welcome you to share your personal knowledge and experience by joining FGBC in our ongoing efforts to make this part of the world a better place for all of us to live, work, play, and grow… together.

FGBC Background and Mission

The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) is a nonprofit 501(C)3 Florida corporation dedicated to improving the built environment. Our mission is to lead and promote sustainability with environmental, economic, and social benefits through regional education and certification programs.

FGBC was conceived and founded in the belief that green building programs will be most successful if there are clear and meaningful principles on which "green" qualification and marketing are based. We are a membership-based organization governed by a Board of Directors and corporate officers who are elected by the general membership.

The FGBC is continually finding new and innovative ways to educate builders, developers, local governments, and consumers about how to achieve a healthier, more environmentally sustainable future.

The purposes of the Florida Green Building Coalition are:

2004 - Sustainable Florida 'Best Practices' Award
2013 - American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) and the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) Exemplary Water-Energy Program
